James Welling, Chemical, 2015   SOLD OUT

James Welling, Chemical, 2015James Welling’s edition of Chemical photographs are chemigrams – a print made by sprinkling powder or fixer on a wet sheet of Kodak Endura Metallic chromogenic paper (a paper designed for printing colour negatives), or by pouring liquid developer or fixer on the paper and then processing. By working in room light, the metallic paper is completely exposed before starting the process.

Kodak Metallic is a colour reversal paper designed to be processed in RA-4 colour chemistry. It has a wonderful opalescent surface and was the last chromogenic paper created by Kodak in the early 2000s. Welling started using the material in 2005, in 2010 he discovered that conventional black and white developers and fixers worked with the paper and began making chemigrams.

The Chemical edition for Camden Arts Centre was created in the winter of 2015 in Los Angeles; and the fall of 2015 in James Welling’s darkroom at Princeton University.
