Hiroshi Sugimoto – limited edition Hermès scarves – Available

Hiroshi Sugimoto, Couleurs de l’ombre, 2012
For the third edition of its Hermès Editeur project bridging fine arts and crafts in the field of textiles, Hermès has tapped Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto to create limited edition silk scarves inspired by his “Colors of Shadow” project. The artist and Hermès creative director Pierre-Alexis Dumas selected 20 of Sugimoto’s Polaroids depicting color gradations, and printed them by ink-jet on silk twill. Only seven of each design will be produced, and the resulting 140 scarves — in a format of 55-by-55 inches — will be presented in Basel during the Art Basel contemporary art fair in June. Hermès previously collaborated with French artist Daniel Buren in 2010, and in 2008, it produced a series paying homage to Bauhaus artist Josef Albers.
