Rachel Whiteread print – “Installation of Ghost 1990-2012″ – Out Now

Rachel Whiteread, Installation of Ghost, 1990 – 2012.
Chisenhale Gallery is pleased to announce that Rachel Whiteread has produced a very special limited edition, the second in their annual series of ‘Archive Editions’. Rachel Whiteread made an exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery in 1990. This was Whiteread’s first major solo exhibition in a public gallery in the UK. She was subsequently commissioned by Artangel to produce House in 1993 and was awarded the Turner Prize the same year. For her exhibition at Chisenhale Gallery Whiteread produced Ghost (1990), a solid negative cast of the entire inside of a room from a Victorian terraced house. Bearing traces of all the architectural features and transplanted into the gallery, the work becomes a room within a room, with all its memories and events sealed anonymously inside it. Read more

Rachel Whiteread edition – “Gold Leaf”, Whitechapel Gift edition – Out Now

Rachel Whiteread, Gold Leaf, 2012.     SOLD OUT
“Gold Leaf” (2012) is a limited edition work created as part of Rachel Whiteread’s commission “Tree of Life” (2012) for the Whitechapel Gallery façade, unveiled on the occasion of the London 2012 Festival.

Original plans show that the Whitechapel Gallery’s facade was meant to hold a frieze embodying its public message – to bring great art to the people of London. This plan was never realized and now, 100 years later, Whiteread has been commissioned to create a new work of art to complete the building.  For Tree of Life and Gold Leaf she draws inspiration directly from the building’s decorative features; the gold leaf on iconic buildings, like St Paul’s Cathedral; and the weeds that spring up in cities.
