Do Ho Suh - Alarm Keypad, Unit G5, Union Wharf, 23 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7SB, UK - 2017In Alarm Keypad, Unit G5, Union Wharf, 23 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7SB, UK, Suh continues his exploration of memory and experience through the domestic items featured in the homes he's lived. By isolating these seemingly mundane objects, Suh encourages viewers to focus in on their intricate details and reflect upon one’s frequent and tactile relationship with these familiar forms.

Unlike a traditional edition, the works from the Alarm Keypad series are unique and rendered ghostly through a cyanotype printing process in which Suh individually manipulates each piece using photosensitive paper to create an impressive photographic cyan blue silhouette. Describing his experience with cyanotype printing Suh states, “I think ultimately I am seeking something intangible, to see something that I cannot see, a sort of residue.” Throughout his career, Suh’s work has focused on themes such as home, physical space, displacement, memory, individuality, and collectivity, that have evolved from his personal history and his experience of growing up in South Korea and immigrating to the United States in 1993.
