Private Sales – Gerhard Richter – Abstraktes Bild (P1) *SOLD*

Private Sales - Gerhard Richter - Abstraktes Bild (P1) - 2014

Gerhard Richter - Abstraktes Bild (P1) - 2014In 2014 Gerhard Richter started a collaboration with Heni Productions to produce limited edition prints. Richter, through Heni Productions, has so far made sixteen such editions, numbered P1 to P16, all co-published with museums and institutions. These prints are all made under Richter's supervision and approval.

The current edition P1 is the first in the series. It is based on Gerhard Richter’s Abstraktes Bild (CR: 724-4) from 1990. This painting has played an extremely important role in Richter’s recent experiments with chance and repetition. This painting was the foundational starting point for various editions including the artist’s book Patterns (2011) and the tapestries MusaYusufIblan and Abdu (2009); it is also the source of the ‘Strips’ that the artist has created in the last few years. Although these works are highly diverse they were all developed through a similar process of dividing, mirroring and repeating the image of the abstract painting upon which P1 is based.
