This is the first time that Innes has worked with stone lithography. He created the images by painting with water tusche ink onto several prepared blocks of lithographic limestone. Innes then painted with mixtures of Gum and Nitric Acid to lighten and remove parts of each image, a process in keeping with his ‘Exposed Painting’ technique where solvent is used to lighten or remove sections of the image, leaving remnants of previous marks.
The titles of the lithographs refer to the coloured inks used in their printing – BBV (Blue/Blue Violet), V (Violet), O (Orange).
