A series of three colour etchings, Light is Love is Manifold Editions’ first collaboration with renowned British light artist Chris Levine. The series stems from Levine’s immersive light works, in particular his blipverts: sculptural light installations fitted with LED bulbs that project a visual echo of the image in the viewer’s peripheral vision as they look back and forth.
Levine says, “The title of this series came to me in something of a ‘eureka’ moment. In a meditative state I had the profound realisation that Light is in fact Love. It was a deep sense, beyond what I could ever describe in words, that I had come to a simple truth. It became the title of a series of light installations that project the word ‘love’ and its symbol, the heart, into the viewer’s peripheral vision. In this print series I’ve captured the images photographically and then developed a series of etchings from those images.”
Light is Love translates Levine’s light work into the print medium, featuring shuttered heart motifs set in motion, their distinctive forms interrupted by bright beams of light. The series marks Levine’s first experiments with the etching medium; the editions are printed through layering multiple etching plates, hand coloured using densely pigmented inks, in a palette of vibrant pinks, yellows, purples and blues.
These limited edition Chris Levine prints are now available at Manifold Editions.
Chris Levine - Light is Love (i) - 2025
Medium: An intaglio technique in which a metal plate is covered with an acid-resistant layer, known as a ground. The image is drawn through the ground using a sharp tool, revealing the metal underneath. The plate is then immersed in an acid bath and the exposed metal is ‘bitten’, creating the lines that hold the ink. Once inked-up, the plate is rolled through an etching press and the image transferred onto paper.
Size: 56.5 x 71 cm (22 ¼ x 28 in)
Edition of 35
Signed by the artist on the front, numbered on the reverse
Price: £ 1,500
