Daniel Richter’s new edition ‚Wenn sie da sind‘ draws on the energy and raw immediacy of one of his early works from 2001. Inspired by a pacifist protest that took place during a military ceremony, the motif captures the tension between choreography and disruption, order and resistance. It echoes the visual language of Richter’s early period—expressive, schematic, and charged with symbolic undertones—while remaining remarkably current and timeless in its effect.
The edition reveals a transitional moment in Richter’s practice: rooted in figuration yet leaning toward abstraction, gestural yet controlled. It is an image that confronts us with both the past and the present of protest—visually striking and emotionally resonant.
