Kiki Smith - Surprise - 2024
Print Center New York announces an exclusive new benefit print from artist Kiki Smith, a luminary in printmaking and a longtime supporter of Print Center New York’s programming. This early release is in honor of their 25th anniversary celebration in 2025 and supports their future public programs.
Printmaking has been integral to Smith’s work since the early 1980s. Surprise is her newest monoprint. Each work is carefully traced by Smith in graphite using a template; Smith has added varying accents of aluminum leafing to both the figure and surrounding space. The tongue is printed in red relief from a cast of the artist’s tongue. The back of the print holds a surprise element.
