Marc Camille Chaimowicz – For Emma

Marc Camille Chaimowicz, For Emma, 2012.

Marc Camille Chaimowicz, For Emma, 2012.For Emma is the second print that the artist has generously created made for the ICA. Like his 2009 edition Les Voyageurs, this print revisits a work entitled Here and There (1978), which comprises a group of decorated panels and painted boards, upon which are mounted photographs featuring everyday and domestic details. For Emma relates to a new work in which Chaimowicz has created an illustrated design for the Flaubert classic, Madame Bovary. The decorative pattern of this print could be seen as the motifs woven into the picnic rug upon which the heroine Emma and Leon would happily sit for hours, in those halcyon days before he left for Paris, heartbroken and disillusioned, and she finally succumbed to adultery with another.
