Marc Quinn, Frozen Wave, 2015
White Cube launched a new edition by Marc Quinn in conjunction with the opening of The Toxic Sublime, his exhibition at White Cube Bermondsey which runs from 15 July - 13 September 2015.
This new embossed print draws on a body of work titled ‘Frozen Waves’, minimal arcs in stainless steel and white concrete form part of these primal, gestural shapes originating from the remnants of shells, eroded by the endless action of the waves. In the moment before they disappear and become sand, all conch shells end up in a similar form – an arch that looks like a wave, as though an unwitting self-portrait by nature. Elegant and minimal, they point to a magical material transformation: the crystallisation of movement into form. Copied and extracted on different scales throughout the exhibition the embossing of Frozen Wave turns a two dimensional object into a sculptural form.
