Mark Leckey - Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, at Tate Britain - 2019 SOLD OUT
Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey has produced a limited edition print especially for Tate on the occasion of the exhibition, Mark Leckey: O' Magic Power of Bleakness at Tate Britain, 24 September 2019 – 5 January 2020.
Emblazoned with the title of his 1999 video work Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, the limited edition digital pigment print on high gloss paper takes the format of a promotional poster. Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, which draws on archival footage to examine shifts in dance and street culture in Britain between the late 1960s and late 1980s, has become one of Leckey’s most popular works and is one of the moving image works on show in the Tate Britain exhibition.
Featuring a still from the video work which is fractured into horizontal lines, like a VHS tape on ‘pause’, the limited edition print appears as though it was made alongside the video in 1990s. The text ‘DEATH OF RAVE/CAT: LECKEY001’ reads as if it were a file name from the digital age and refers to the record label that the soundtrack to the video was released on along with the catalogue number.
