Michael Craig-Martin, iPhone 6s, 2015
The Serpentine is pleased to present iPhone 6s, a new Limited Edition digital print by Michael Craig-Martin. Produced on the occasion of his exhibition Transience, which focuses on his painting and drawing practice through the lens of technology, it depicts the latest model of this popular smartphone.
This multifunctional object has in recent years replaced the need for numerous other individual objects, including the calculator, diary, book and watch, all of which have been drawn and painted by Craig-Martin since the 1970s. However, the increasing speed with which new models of the iPhone are developed suggests that this object, too, will become obsolete in the near future.
