Modern Artifact 001 by Daniel Arsham is a sculptural piece made of plaster and cast resin, depicting a decaying New York Yankees baseball cap. The cap shows large, weathered holes, as though eroded by time, blending the familiar with the ancient. The distressed texture and deconstructed form transform a contemporary cultural symbol into an artifact from the future, evoking themes of memory, time, and obsolescence. This work, a replica of Arsham’s earlier Blue Calcite Hat from 2016, continues his exploration of objects that symbolize cultural identity, reimagined as future relics.
