After the publication of his volume “ONCE UPON A TIME” in 2022 by Three Star Books, Rirkrit Tiravanija is back with a limited photo edition based on the 12 pages of the book. The die-cut pigment print photographs are mounted on multiple cardboard layers, which provides depth as the text casts its shadow. The frames are hand coloured in the same orange shade as the background, enhancing the visual appeal of the photographs. The photographs are printed on a grey recycled cardboard, reminding of the artist’s use of newspaper-quality supports.
The background photographs for the six English phrases were taken in Hong Kong, while those for the French phrases were taken in Paris. The artist and the publisher wish to express their gratitude to John Tain for his valuable assistance with the Hong Kong images.
