Julian Opie - Sprinters - 2024 (six lenticular editions)
Cristea Roberts Gallery has just launched a new series of six lenticular editions by Julian Opie, unveiled for the first time at The Armory Show in New York.
Since 2004, Opie has incorporated lenticular technology into his printmaking practice to create dynamic editions that transform depending on the vantage point of the viewer.
For Sprinters., 2024, the artist returns to the motif of the Olympic sprinter, drawing the viewer’s attention to the illusory depth between the runners. Opie expresses the unique gait and pace of each individual, evoking the thrill, tension and momentum of racing. There are six lenticulars in the series, each in an edition of thirty. The lenticular is mounted onto a thick white acrylic base which can be fixed directly to the wall without the need for a frame.
