Journey into the fantastical world of Joan Jonas

one of the most important artists of our time, who will this year represent the United States at the 56th Biennale d’Arte di Venezia. A charismatic pioneer of video and performance art, since the sixties Jonas' work has depicted an imaginary universe created from both magic and the everyday, featuring common objects imbued with evocative meanings, rites and stories.

In an online exclusive on yoox.com, Jonas has created 160 limited edition shawls inspired by her aesthetic research. The canvas for these poetic images is the finest Italian silk produced by Fondazione Ratti in Como, where, as a guest artist, Jonas nurtured young artistic talent. The piece's central motif is the butterfly, iconic element of the artist's work and one used by Aby Warburg to fill the modern world's spiritual void in his essay on travel in late 19th century America.
