The limited edition that Kara Walker has produced exclusively for the Kunstmuseum Basel reproduces an untitled drawing from a 38-part series acquired by the museum in 2019. The series interweaves a range of themes in dense compositions:
America’s Founding Fathers, the exploitative use of African-American bodies by medical schools, police violence against Blacks and the Black Lives Matter movement. Exuding an “Old-Masterly” charm yet anchored in the present, the series is executed in variety of brown towns on high-end paper.
