Luke Fowler, Rhododendron / bookshelf (Edinburgh and Glasgow, 2012), 2014
Luke Fowler’s limited edition Rhododendron / bookshelf (Edinburgh and Glasgow, 2012), 2014 was created in tribute to the late French filmmaker Chris Marker to accompany his posthumous exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, A Cat Without a Grin, 16 April - 22 June 2014. The edition is a photographic split-sequence image, featuring details from a bookshelf and the botanical gardens of Edinburgh.
Fowler is a filmmaker who uses photographs, archival images and music, building experimental cinematic collages that ultimately deconstruct conventional thoughts about biography and the documentary; the viewer is drawn in and confronted with their own relationship to history and to film as an art form.
