Private Sales - Robert Longo, Men in the Cities (Cindy) / Men in the Cities (Eric) 1981, 2014 SOLD
Robert Longo was first recognized for his hyperrealistic charcoal illustrations during the 1980's, and today the artist continues to explore the potential of his crisp, breath-taking style, particularly through imagery of powerful figures and events. These two photographs are from Longo's famed "Men in the Cities," series, in which business-attired men and women fight, writhe, and scream within their surroundings like performers in a spotlight. Here, each figure’s shadowed face and arms evoke classical sculpture while their professional clothing suggests a commentary on his class in the present day, creating a nuanced view of the human body as seen by the artist.
