New Chisenhale Gallery editions 

The Archive Editions series comprises new limited edition works, kindly donated by artists who have participated in Chisenhale Gallery’s historic exhibitions programme. Funds raised from the sales of these works contribute to the gallery’s artistic programme and support the next generation of pioneering artists.

Josephine Pryde - Freshly Cut Grass, May Blossom, Stinging Nettles, Bluebells and Lady's Bedstraw, Picked in the Spring and Exposed in the Darkroom, 2019

Pryde’s new edition for Chisenhale Gallery, Freshly Cut Grass, May Blossom, Stinging Nettles, Bluebells and Lady's Bedstraw, Picked in the Spring and Exposed in the Darkroom (2019), is a photogram depicting the word ‘SHAME’, drawn by the artist with fresh cut flowers and grasses. The title directly describes the edition’s production process, and continues Pryde’s ongoing work with photograms. The edition exploits the immediacy of an analogue photographic technique using light to fix images of fresh spring plants that spell out a supposedly negative emotion, evoking a sense of smell and touch in connection to the words. The reconfiguration of these elements reflects Pryde’s intent to question, to experience and to live with, and through, a perpetually recurring emotional state.

Sonia Boyce - I'm with her too - 2019

Boyce’s new edition for Chisenhale Gallery, I’m With Her Too (2019), references a found placard from the New York Women’s march in response to the results of the 2016 United States presidential election. The edition includes the written statement ‘I’m with her’ as a call for solidarity, celebrating the positive energy generated in movements of social and collective action. The print maps hand-drawn arrows that point outwards and beyond the edge of the margins of the paper, giving a sense of infinity. I’m With Her Too (2019) continues Boyce’s interest in rallying a sense of the social, in order to connect the viewer with the potential for change.

Clare Woods - The Overnighter & The Unguest - 2019

Woods’ Chisenhale Archive Edition, The Overnighter &  (2019), are based on a photograph from the artist’s archive, representing a classic Venetian Murano glass chandelier. The editions are produced as a monoprint with Woods’ painterly gestures and interventions existing as a single printed impression, making each edition unique. Drawn by the delicate forms and sparkling surfaces of the glass chandelier, Woods plays with the reflection and refraction of the object, allowing its form to dissolve in the rich layer of colour. Comprising a set of two prints, the edition intends to capture a sense of stillness, and through its contrasting tones the work explores both the past and present.
